  1. I recently purchased a Beretta Centurion 96, .40SW. I found several manufactures online on the conversion to 9mm, merely there were conflicted reports on what exactly needs to be changed.

I scanned our archives, but didn't find anything applicative.

Has anyone hither done the conversion?

  2. Not trying to be snarky merely if you wanted a 9mm, why did you purchase a forty Due south&W?

  3. OP, I have a 96FS and - for range employ - all I exercise is substitute a 9mm barrel & utilize 9mm mags. For me information technology is a range gun, and I've run +/- 500 rounds thru it without malfunctions (that I remember). That'd exist over a four or five yr catamenia. Yes, the commodities face & extractor don't quite fit the 9mm tightly only it's good enough to feed, fire, extract, & eject. 9mm will even work in the .40 magazine for range apply.

If you desire to apply the gun for defense - abode or deport - with 9mm, supplant the entire slide assembly and swap the ejector. (Somebody please correct me if there's more than). Or practice/shoot for fun due west a 9mm butt and use .40S&W for defensive employ.

As to why for me, I'yard a cheapskate. .40s&west used guns are cheaper than 9mm - mine was cheap enough to gat a 9mm barrel & still only have a total cost of a 9mm 92FS handgun. And 9mm is cheaper to shoot. Although folks' memories are fading, when 9mm was hard to find +/-4 years ago, I could ever detect .40s&w, then in that location's flexibility too.

    MI2600, accept fun with it!

  4. I have eleven 9mm handguns running from C96 Broomsticks to Rugers. Until now, I had Zero 40S&Ws. Finding information re the non-permanent conversion sounded similar a "Gotta Try".

Easiest/all-time pick is to become a 9mm consummate upper.
  6. Ideally, a complete 92 upper. But barrel and mags will piece of work every bit noted in a higher place. Some slop.
  7. Establish this, I remember seeing them at i indicate.

Couldn't observe any used Beretta 96 complete 9mm slides. In that location's a barrel less i on eBay. There are a couple .40 slides.
  8. The right mode to do it is to become a complete 9mm upper and slide it on the 96 frame. The sights will be closer to being "on" and the extractor will be more optimally located for the smaller example rim. The terminal identify I saw that was selling complete 9mm Beretta uppers was CDNN...simply it's been a while ago.

You lot can use your 96 magazines with the 92 upper. The tubes are the same except for slightly wider lips...they'll allow a 9mm cartridge to sit slightly higher

  9. A 9mm "conversion" barrel (like the EFK Firedragon barrel linked above) is a perfectly suitable option. I've used conversion barrels in a number of guns. I've had several EFK Firedragon barrels and similar them a lot.

The barrel maker will tweak the conversion barrel'due south design a bit so that headspace and extractor function is correct.

Yous tin often use .40 magazines when running 9mm, merely (as noted to a higher place) because the magazine'south feed lip gap is a bit wider for a .twoscore round, the .forty mags may non feed some hollow-point ammo properly. -- the hollow signal oral cavity of some brands of SD ammo volition sometimes dig into the feed ramp, cauing a jam. (This shouldn't be a problem with hardball/round olfactory organ ammo.). If y'all feel you must shoot hollow point and encounter the "feed issue", you'll might need to become 9mm magazines. As for sight variances betwixt .xl and 9mm -- it's a possibility, but non likely to be a big concern -- nothing you can adjust for when aiming when running the 9mm magazine.

A conversion barrel will be less expensive than a full 9mm upper, and you MAY need to get some 9mm magazines, regardless.. (Beretta offered a 9mm/.40 gear up dorsum in the belatedly 90's with two slides and iv magazines (2x9 and 2x.40).
